Period & BFing

I just stumbled upon these boards....glad I did.  I am wondering if anyone has any input of having their Period while BFing.

Does anyone know if getting your period affects the taste of your BM or if it affects your supply?  My dr. jinxed me in December during my yearly (5mo PP) - he said I could get my period this month, next, or when LO is weaned. Well...I got it last month :(  Both months the first and second days of my period LO seems to not want to nurse as much. Maybe its coincidence?  I don't want to starve LO - I don't know what to do for him...

Any thoughts?

I got my period when my daughter was 10 months, and am still nursing her...she's 3 now! Some women notice a change or decrease in the supply during the first few days of the period. I never noticed any difference at all. I do have less cramps and discomfort with my period than before my pregnancy, not sure if that is related to breastfeeding.

I got my period at 11 months PP and it's been really irregular (the second one was 6 weeks after the first). The second one had very bad PMS (cramps and really emotional) and a very heavy flow. Both times I noticed that my supply decreased for a few days and I got pretty sore nipples (from hormones?). Overall, I don't like it.

HA!

yes. I've definitely got a little gourmet on my hands here.. it's a sure sign that AF has her landing gear down when DS gets a bit testy at the boob.. and bites. Kind of like his eloquent way of throwing the plate back in my face?

A side note about AF and breastfeeding (got it back 4 months PP).. it's now hanging on for dear life every month.. stretching for 6-7 days of heavy-med and then another 2-5 days spotting. I mean really.. insult to injury, my fair lady.

I got mine back about 7/8 weeks postpartum the first time around and 10 weeks the second. DD1 nursed until 4, and DD2 is ten months and going strong. I don't know that it affects the taste--haven't paid enough attention. But, I do feel that ovulation affects supply. I definitely notice a dip when I'm pumping around then.

I had mine back at 4 months PP - very irregular. I notice a supply drop, but only because I was pumping. otherwise I don't think I would have noticed at all.

I should also add that around ovulation and right before and the first couple days of my period, my let down takes 2-3 minutes longer. I think that's why DD gets testy on the boob, she's annoyed it's taking so long.
