What are IgE reactions/testing?

I'm confused. My 4yo and 19mth old both had prick/scratch testing. I'm guessing this isn't the same as IgE testing?

Wait. Is IgE testing the same as RAST? Nolen had the RAST test done but I don't know *what* foods they tested for. His came back negative but his skin/prick test showed some bad reactions that the allergist said were positive.

IgE-mediated allergies are "true" (immediate/potentially-anaphylactic) allergies. RAST (blood) and SPT (skin prick) are the usual IgE tests done.
