2 year old gets himself out of car seat - suggestions??

My 2 year old is able to pull his arms out of the straps on his carseat and then proceed to flip his body over and manuever his way out.  I have the straps as tight as possible, and I can't pull them up any higher, or they'll be to his neck!  Anyone else gone through this or have any suggestions??  I am now stuck at home because I don't dare drive anywhere with him!

Have you tried repositioning his crotch strap? It might need to be closer to his body.

Also, check how tight things are through the hips. Maybe you're getting the shoulder part tight, but the straps are loose over his hips and then he's able to get that slack up into the shoulders so he can slip free.

Lastly, since this is a new thing, have you double checked where the shoulder straps are set? Maybe they need to go up a slot or something?

all else fails, I'd either see about getting a new seat, or see if you can correct it as a behavior issue by doing something like going with another adult to someplace fun you don't have to get to in any rush and just stopping the car every time he starts to get out.

What seat?  Forward facing or rear?

Are you in the US/Canada where there is a chest clip or elsewhere? When we were visiting Australia we were surprised to find that chest clips are not standard.
