Floor bed in baby proofed room + mobile baby = chaos!

So far this week, I have rescued the baby from: underneath his crib (which is unused and will be dismantled this weekend); from the corner of his room in which he had lodged himself without being able to crawl forward; and from behind the door of his room.  All in all he is a great sleeper (this is new) but now that he is crawling he is having a really hard time settling...he usually nurses 'till drowsy and pops himself off and then falls asleep fairly quickly.  Now he nurses 'till drowsy and suddenly starts acting like he has ants in his pants.  Do babies just get used to their mobility and resume their prior stationary sleep habits?  Or should I reconsider the crib?  (We used to co-sleep but we ALL sleep much better independently and in separate rooms--including the baby!)
