Pain during nursing through pregnancy

I am still nursing my 17 month old daughter and am 21 weeks pregnant.  My milk production has gone way down, and I think she only does it for comfort.

Anyway, I think something has changed in the way she suckles... it almost feels like biting when she latches on (I'm pretty sure she's not because her tongue comes out a little).  I have had psoriasis (very mild) almost as long as I can remember, and before I got pregnant again, her breastfeeding rarely caused any breakouts on my breasts, but now it's a different story.

I am not interested in weaning at all, and I'm not trying to be a martyr here.  I just want to do what is best for both of us.  I don't have any La Leche groups around here, and I was hoping that some of you might have experienced this painful experience and might have some advice.  It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't have any answers, but I'm 31 weeks, and my 19 month old has been latching differently since she stopped getting much milk. and it's really painful sometimes. I think it's that she isn't sucking to get milk anymore, she's just sucking. so she's using a completely different mechanic.

LLL leaders do free phone consults, even if you don't have a group nearby. You could look for the closest one on the LLL website.

DD's suck also changed when my milk dried up.  She was a bit older, but I would tell her that her teeth were hurting and ask her to adjust her suck.  It would feel better for a few minutes and then we would have to adjust again.

Thanks for all the replies.

I'll see if I can get in touch with an LLL leader for a consult.

I hate that anyone has to go through this to nurse during pregnancy, but at least it seems like a normal and common thing... it's good to know we aren't in it alone.

My 19month old is still nursing and I'm almost 13 weeks pregnant. I had a lot of pain at first and now there is only pain on one side, I have noticed that the side I have pain on has almost no milk. I'm not wanting to wean my 19month old either and plan to let him keep nursing, but I'm very happy he is down to 3-5 nursings a day now (he was at 8-12 before I found out I was pregnant).

Good luck!
