I am 15 weeks and itching like crazy all over. Especially my back. No rash though, and it's more than just dry skin. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there any reason to be concerned or talk to my midwife about it?
There is a condition called Cholestatis that is linked to itching. A friend of mine is pregnant with her sixth and has cholestasis for the second time. It wouldn't hurt to talk to your mw about it!
Thanks! I did a quick search, and it sounds like itchiness is either harmless/normal or quite serious. I don't have itching of the hands or feet like is usually associated with cholestasis, so that's somewhat reassuring. Plus I'm 15 weeks and I think cholestasis mostly happens in the last few weeks of pregnancy. I'll definitely bring it up with my mw though.Â
While I would mention the cholestasis to your midwife, remember, too, that it's normal to be extra sensitive when you're pregnant. A change in laundry soap, weather, diet... Those can all have more drastic effects when you're preggo. But cholestasis can be serious, and can develop earlier on, so make sure to bring it up with your MW if it continues!
I am itchy, but there seems to be reasonable causes for it. We heat with wood which really makes the air dry, so I am usually itchy in winter despite humidifiers, and the worst is where my newest stretch marks are.
