so, i'm 24 weeks pregnant and meeting with my OB this afternoon. yes, i know it's a bit late to be doing this, but i'm coming up with a list of questions to ask him about my vbac.
Â
when i found him i thought the fact that he "supported vbac" was enough, but more and more i'm feeling that i really need to ask him some more specific questions.Â
Â
i recently found out that the hospital in which i'll be delivering has only a 4% vbac rate (i realize that these numbers can be misleading since not all women attempt a vbac, but still that number seems low). the overall cesarean rate is 34% and their primary cesarean rate is 18%. i do know that my doctor is the ONLY doctor who will attend vbacs at this hospital, so that could also contribute to the low numbers. so i guess i should first ask what his vbac rate is.
Â
other questions i've thought of:
Â
-how do you handle things if i go past my due date?
Â
-how do you handle things if my water breaks before labor begins (this happened with dd and i was told to go to the hospital right away. this, i believe, was such a huge mistake on my part and wish i would have stayed home a lot longer).
Â
-will an IV be required?
Â
-will fetal monitoring be intermittent or constant?
Â
-what type of food and drink is allowed?
Â
-what is your episiotomy rate?
Â
what am i forgetting?
Â
there are some other questions i have about the hospital, but should i not ask him these questions? someone suggested i call the hospital and ask to speak with a nurse in L&D or take a tour to gauge how supportive the nurses are of vbac and/or unmedicated birth.
Â
TIA
