I need something that most Americans won't find too difficult to pronounce or remember.

Any ideas welcome.

Any links or books appreciated.

We have a friend named Tej and they pronounce it Thage, so maybe that's an alternate friendly name? I also like Vijay, and think most americans would be comfortable with that.

Sumed (pron soo-med) or sumit are both simple and nice.

My friend's son is named Vikram, it's plenty easy enough for English pronunciation.

Arun

Kiran

Rohan

Prem

Ravi

Sunil

Tarun

Are all fairly easy to pronounce and not too strange to the American ear.  We used Kiran as DS' middle name and newbie's middle name will be Mohan, it would have been Rohan, but DH's Great-Grandfather was Mohan so we decided to use that instead.

Rohan is one of my favorites--

Devin

Aaran

TBH, I wouldn't worry so much about pronouncability. People are used to indian names in the us these days it seems.

I knew a Nikhil (often went by Nik).

When I was teaching, there was a boy in my class named Raj.  That's pretty simple, yet lovely.

I used to date a guy named "Suresh". Awesome guy. Awesome name.

Here is a web site, that allows you to search for Indian baby names that are easily pronounced by foreigners:

I find that white folks (like me!) are pretty good at spelling and pronouncing Sanjay.

How about Varun?

Khirad (KEE-rod)
Bashir (bah-SHEER)
Niketan (nik-EE-tahn), Nik for short

there are loads of others I can't think of right now, but already mentioned are Nikhil, Vikram and Raj. I also know a guy whose name is Krishna and he is called Krish, which I love. Actually, lots of Indian names are pretty simple and easy to pronounce.

How about Arjun? My son has a classmate who has that name. It's such a strong and respectable name since Arjun was a mythical hero.

My friends baby is named "Millan"  (Mil-uhn) - I think its hindu for solidarity or unity - I love the name.  (She's Indian, her husband is Italian - but I'm almost positive this name is Indian)
