Lindy Hop Pattern?

Thread Starter

I'm a cloth diaper newbie. I want to use cloth diapers with my baby, but want them to be just as easy to move in, as a disposable. I kind of like the look of this pattern, but can't find ANY reviews for it. I think it is fairly new. I was wondering if anyone had sewn one up and had any opinions about it.

I'm taking my time to figure out the right pattern and look around. I'm a busy student/teacher/community person/big family helper and know that if I want to use cloth diapers, I'm going to need to start sewing before I'm pregnant. You may be thinking this is odd, but I know my schedule and I know that if I want this, I need to start sewing when I start trying to be a mommy ;). So, while I research the right vitamins and nutrition and get nervous about coffee-withdrawl, I'm also researching cloth diapers. Please help! :D

I don't have experience with that diaper pattern. However, I don't think there's really any ONE pattern that fits all babies perfectly. Really, it's going to depend on your baby's personal shape, which unfortunately you won't know until they're here ;) Fattycakes is a pattern that fits many babies well. The newborn size is a bit bigger than most other patterns, so if you have a small baby they may be a bit big for a while.

Some of my favorite diapers were the Fattycakes Newborn Pockets that I made with a print knit outer and velour inner, with no closures. I would just hold them on her, stick the cover on and the cover would hold the diaper on. You change them so often in the beginning, and they hold still for you so no closures isn't a huge issue if you use a cover.

The Darling Diaper free newborn fit my daughter very well from day one. http://www.darlingdiapers.com/Darling%20Diapers%20Free%20Newborn%20Fitted%20Pattern2009.pdf

Another one I really like is the Rainy Days pattern. It fit well from the time that she was a couple of weeks old (it fit before then, but seemed overwhelming on her tiny body). I made a bunch from all knit materials and they still fit her (albeit on the last snaps) at almost 13 months old.

As for sewing, I love working with FOE so we like the Chloe Toes pattern.

Other ones that I can think of that I like are The Hippy Hippy Snap, La Di Da, and Trimsies. We have a few Cuddlebuns thrown in but those are bulky on a newborn. Most of our stash now (she's in a medium) is comprised of waterproof pockets made with the Nykibaby One Size pattern. Another that intrigues me is the Nykibaby Butterfly diaper, but I haven't found time to sew one up yet. http://hyenacart.com/NykiBaby/index.php?c=11

Really, my best advice is to sew up a few of everything since it's hard to know what will fit best and what you'll like. Don't sweat the newborn period- get some prefolds as backup. They grow so fast and baby will be into smalls and mediums before you know it. Smart thinking to start sewing now, you have time to make yourself an awesome stash:)
