Not correcting just b/c it's cute. - Page 2

Sorry, just had to say this.  One that bothers me and I always corrected was "pasghetti".  I knew a couple kids in 5th and 6th grade still saying this and it BUGGED ME.  I was mean about it though, they'd say we were having pasghetti for lunch and I'd say, "you mean SPA-GET-TI!"  I couldn't stand it.

I don't usually correct things but there have been a few times that I have.

A few weeks back my 5 yr old and I were grocery shopping and over the speaker system came a  ad for icecream.  It said something to the effect of "no body can resist bluebunny ice cream sandwiches!"  By 5 yr old turned to me and said "mom, I don't like that icecream b/c it has bunnies in it!"  I thought it was so cute!  He also thinks when he grows up he will be Iron Man.  Honestly I think things like that are harmless and can squash their imagination.    He isn't going to be thinking the same thing when he is 12 and I honestly don't think it can do any damage to let them fantasize/think those things can happen.

My 54yo DP, however, until very recently said "cimmanon", thinking it was correct, and still thinks "aliums" is correct. He thinks "aliens" is for people who aren't native to this country, and "aliums" is for outer-space people lol.gif He was flabbergasted when I corrected him. He had no idea.

I found out that my 39yo DH thought that "wheelbarrow" was actually "wheelbarrel."  He was also surprised - he was in the midst of making fun of me for saying it wrong.  But, he's a city guy, and what do they know from wheelbarrows?  wink1.gif

Yeah, and it drives me NUTS when people say "draws" for "drawers", as in, part of a dresser. I'm a serious grammar geek, though redface.gif There are a lot of people who say "wheelbarrel". I know there are more but I just can't think of them off the top of my head! Now here's one that gets me: I am originally from the northeast, where people say "on purpose" and "by accident". I don't know if it's regional, but I now live in the southeast, and people here say "ON" accident. I'm sure it's just to match "on purpose" but that drives me nuts, too.

Sorry for derailing thread...now back to the regularly scheduled program lol.gif
