The people that did this study had ties to baby food companies.
It's sad that this study is getting so much attention.

I don't believe that exclusive breastfeeding can cause any harm. But as a mom who followed her gut and started ds on solids at 4 months, it's nice to finally hear something that doesn't say I was oh so so so wrong to do so. He's fine btw- great eater, broad palate, great big strapping nursing eating 13 month old boy. No allergies.

The news headlines are nonsense. In the first place, that is *not* what the study said.
Secondly thought, what is actually in the study is a lot of "concern" and "observation" but not a whole lot of fact. There are some serious logical flaws in there too.
And then there's the whole ties-to-formula-companies side of it. Can anyone say "Conflict of interest". uh-huh.
I had one kid who wanted solids at 5 months. He ate jambalaya and regular table food. I had another one who wanted nothing to do with solids 'til past a year. Neither of them has allergies. Both of them are willign to eat things "normal" Americans won't eat, but both have also gone through temporary periods of extreme pickiness. Their palate is due to family food culture and what's made available to them, not how long they were exclusively breastfed. Both of them had their *primary* nourishment being breastmilk. My concern is not with mothers going on their child's cue when it comes to solids, but with the ridiculous media now *telling mothers to wean* based on this nonsense study. What are they going to wean *to*? A four month old on nothing but solids? Of course not. They're going to wean to formula, and think they've done the kid a favor, "because breastfeeding causes allergies and obesity, you know". ![]()

Mothers need to listen their own instint and watch the their babies instead of the calendar. I started with solids at 5 mo with my first due the pushing doctor and my lack of confidence as a mother. My little stragle with solids and purees until I hear somebody that told me to listen my baby. What a great advice!. My second started solids from regular table food around his 6 mo. Now both of my kids have nor allergies, much less obesity, they're just super fit kids and healthy. Yesterday, they were super happy eating a huge bowl of salad, just for my 2 kids (5 and 2). I wish somebody could include them in a study to prove the benefits or EBF for around the first 6 month and CLW.
