Recycling crayons question

DS wants a Lego themed birthday party, so I bought two silicon molds (blocks and minifigures). I want to make candy to decorate the cupcakes and then crayons for the gift bags. I was going to make the candy first, but my question is: does using the molds to recycle crayons ruin them for anything but crayons afterwards? 

Also, I read one blog that said to oil the molds so the crayons come out easier but most tutorials don't say that. Is it necessary? Can you tell I'm a first-timer??

I used silicon molds for crayons, and I couldn't get the crayon residue out of them.  I definitely can't use them for food now.  Maybe oiling them would prevent that.  But definitely do the candies first!  Could you tell me where you got them?  Ds would love that.

I bought them on e-bay. Lego sells the mini figure mold on the website but they don't have the blocks anymore. I think I'm going to dedicate the mini figure mold to the crayons, since I just realized how long it will take me to make crayon sets for 14 kids.

I just did some of these on Tuesday! It was a fun & satisfying project.  DH said I should be on that TLC show about strange addictions because I so enjoyed peeling off the crayon paper! 

I didn't oil the pans (used mini muffin tins) just put them in the freezer once they were no longer hot. They popped out pretty easily then.
