Need help weaning from a bottle

Thread Starter

My ds2 turned 1 in on January 1st.  Due to my health, he has been on exclusively donor milk since early September.  Although I am now in remission, I am unable to breastfeed or relactate, so I have to continue to rely on donor milk until he weans.

Now that I am through my treatment, I feel uncomfortable continuing to ask for such a large favor from donor moms in my area, so I would like to start weaning my son from breastmilk altogether:(  I want to keep him on it until he is 2, but I feel I need a backup plan in case the largesse runs out.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Can you wean your child to cow's milk?  If there is no history of food allergy, usually this is an acceptable time to do that.  Also, if you haven't already begun introducing a cup, this is a good time to do it.  (I never used the no-spill, valved spouted cup with my kids--just used the kind with a very simple spout--a speech therapist once told me that they are seeing kids with speech problems because they have used these types of cups for so long and because of the way they have to suck hard on them to get anything out)
