Hi! I am reworking our budget and one thing that definitely needs to be cut/lowered is our cell phone bills. I was looking at the Boost mobile phones and wondering if anyone here has any experience with them. Some of dh's coworkers use these phones and seem happy with them. I have tried the straight talk phones before and the price was great but I wasn't thrilled with the service. From what I've seen our local service provider and ATT are more expensive. The boost mobile is $50 a month for unlimited on one phone. Are there other companies that offer something similar or how does everyone save on their phone bills?

We use TracFone. We don't talk a lot on the phone so we get their $100 plan that give you 400 minutes (800 with the double minute card/phone) and 365 days of service. Then we just add more minutes as needed. I figure we'll spend less than $400 this year total for 2 phones. That seems like a pretty good price to me and I like not having a contract.

Before I had dd, when I worked full time and had a long commute I gave up my home phone and only had a basic plan cell phone that was $25 per month for 200 minutes. I was never home to miss my home phone and I rarely needed my cell as I could make some calls from work if I needed to and I could email anything else.Â
After I had dd, I got back the home phone in the cable internet phone bundle. I renegotiate every year to keep it at $99 for all three services so my home phone is $33 per month. I canceled the cell plan and got a prepaid AT&T for $100 a year .. yes that's yearly. I have no trouble with service but I also only use it for emergencies or if I need to check in with someone really quick while I'm out.Â

I have Virgin Mobile and one of the talk/text/web plans for $60 month unlimited on everything. Ya its a bit much but the regular unlimited plan was $50 for just talk so I upgraded the phone and its $60 for everything.
Â
This may change soon when I need to add DS 10 and get him a phone but for now this works.(and DS wont be getting web/text)
I have no home phone so IMO this isnt too bad...no contract etc

A lot of the choice depends on how many minutes you'll use a month. I have a tracfone with double minutes for life. Texts are cheaper than calls. I pretty much use it for keeping in touch with DH or other family for short calls. It's fine for what I need it for and at most $15ish a month.
