Is Raspberry leaf safe for vbac and expecting twins?

Hi everyone,

I have been reading up a lot on trying for a vbac and easy labor/delivery. I read about Raspberry Leaf Tea and have started having it 27 weeks onwards. However, today I read on a website that Raspberry leaf tea should be avoided if you have had a previous c section or if you are expecting twins. I have had 2 c sections and am expecting twins this time. I have read of many women who have had this tea despite these 2 conditions. But would like to know if there is anything really harmful in it?

Also, What are Braxton Hicks really? I have been having this tightening of tummy from 23 or so weeks onwards ( I am 29 weeks now ), and it hurts. I get a period like cramps and my belly gets so stiff. Is this Braxton?

Thanks.

If you are looking at RRL from the point of view that it is an herbal astringent that is good for all aspects of the female reproductive cycle, it's good for all pregnancies.  It does not "induce labor."  It does seem to make the action and reaction of the muscles of the uterus work more efficiently together...and to make the elasticity of the muslces more, well, elastic.

I agree with the pp. It's a wonderful labor tonic and my guess is the mention on that website, as with many warnings that I read, is the website covering their butt. They gotta say it but taking the other research about RRL, that warning can be taken with a grain of salt. However, if you feel uneasy about it, talk to your midwife or even post on the birth professionals board if perhaps you have an OB who would just look at you funny for even asking about something herbal.blush.gif
