DS was in a car accident and it has been a PITA

My ds was hit by a commercial truck driver ONE WEEK after he got his new-to-him car from his grandparents. Ugh. The driver did not have proof of insurance - I had to track the company down on the 'net. The company sent me to the wrong insurance company. When they finally sent me to the right one, they were snowed in (Atlanta) and not working. So for 11 days we were without a rental or any hope of resolution.

They finally sent an adjuster out and I am worried they will total the car and send me a lowball offer.

We know the history of this vehicle and it is in excellent condition other than the rear door and rear fender. Should we try to fix it w/salvage yard parts? anyone ever done that?

I can't help with your question, just wanted to say I hope your DS is ok.

My only advice is NOT to accept the first offer from the Insurance company AND push them for loss of use on the vehicle. I would look up the value of the car now and have a figure in your head that you want from the insruance company. sorry about your accident. That totally stinks.

They actually gave a decent offer. They also are sending me a check for a replacement carseat of my choice (he keeps a carseat for the littles in his car at all times). They rented us a car immediately. They've been fair.

I am going to counter offer and ask for the $330 in car rental that I should have gotten for the eleven days we did without due to their client's lack of proof of insurance.

And Mamita, he and his girlfriend were both fine! He instinctively sped up so that the truck hit the rear passenger door instead of his gf's door. She tells that story like he is her knight in shining armor ; )

Ellien, what exactly do you mean by loss of use? They rented us a car once the claim got to the proper place.

Glad your ds and gf are ok!
