bladder infection?or what else is going on? So upset

Right after Thanksgiving, I got a UTI- it took over a week but I kicked it with d- mannose, cranberry, homeopathic, goldenseal, nettle infusion (not sure which did the trick.) Anyway, a few weeks ago, I started feeling off again- like I needed to pee all the time- no burning just the urgency feeling. I started on the remedies and again it was gone. The next time dh and I had sex, the feeling was back- again treated and it went away. Then sex brought it on again. This is so depressing. Again I treated and it was gone and now today with no sex, I feel off again like I always have to pee a little. I am getting really upset about this. when I was in my  early 20's I had issues like this off and on for a couple of years and I was treated with ABX all the time! I DO NOT want ABX now. I called my midwife to make an appt and i am waiting on a call back.

Any chance that a yeast infection could be causing this feeling? Last week I felt like I might be getting a yeast infection.

I am really getting depressed about this. I have this feeling of dread that I will always feel like this plus I am going to be so paranoid about having sex. I also worry that there is some general health system malfunction going on- like my ph is all off or whatever.

I get this with low grade bacterial infection. It starts in the gut and then affects the immune system, telling the immune system not to fight the bacteria in other places, so they are allowed to grow in the bladder. Happens every time I start eating sugary foods again. Lots of probiotics will help. If it's yeast, S boullardi will help. If it's bacteria, use a strong (high CFU) multi strain probiotic WITH NO PREBIOTIC such as inulin, FOS, chickory which will only feed the bad bugs. I agree with you that abx are not really going to help. I LOVE cran d-mannose. Great stuff. I'm going to look into the other stuff you're using. What is the homeopathic remedy?

Wow! That is really interesting and makes some sense! I have been on a really low sugar diet - basically trying to be on a Candida diet but not being religious about it other than sugar, gluten and dairy. I've been cheating a small amount lately and thought  maybe that had something to do with this. But that kind of annoys me because if I am doing all this work on my diet and i feel worse because I have one cookie every 6 weeks it makes me want to say forget it!

teh homepathics were catharis and sepia. Do you know if 3-lac has prebiotics? That's what I have been taking. I also eat fermented foods and drink kombucha and water kefir.

Thanks so much!

Hmmmm. I have been looking at Sepia. Will check out the other one.

Yes, ThreeLac has FOS which is bad. S boullardi is the probiotic in the brand FloraStor and it works much better. You can also order S boullardi from Kirkman.com but I think if you can find Florastor it's a better deal.

Sometimes with die off (killing bad guys) you can have an endless bacteria/yeast yo-yo back and forth. Kill one and the other grows. It helps to reduce sugar like you're doing and keep up the probiotics, some for yeast and some for bacteria.

The GAPS diet is awesome for healing the gut and rebalancing gut flora as well as neurotransmitters and hormones. It's whole body. Sometimes you can have low level chronic inflammation in the gut and the toxins from yeast/bacteria are irritating and cause the body to secrete mucous in order to protect itself from the pathogenic organisms. But the problem with the mucous is that it also keeps your body from being able to absorb nutrients effectively, leaving foods to ferment in the gut. Also the inflammation and toxins destroy the villi in the small intestine. The digestive enzymes are located at the tips of the villi, so they are the first to be affected. With decreased digestive enzyme capacity, you can't digest your food and again it sits there fermenting. The key to breaking the cycle is healing the gut. The Gut and Psychology Syndrome Diet book is really great for explaining all this. It's tough to give up everything at first, though.

The other thing that might really help is to make sure your zinc/copper balance is OK. A lot of people have low zinc. This throws off your immune system and makes it really hard to fight yeast and bad bacteria. This is really helping me a ton. First thing you add is high doses of Vit C (4000-6000mg a day) then add zinc picolinate (easier absorption). I take about 50 mg a day. Then add molybdenum. I take 100 mg a day. This really did help me a lot. But still I have to be careful with sweeter foods and foods I have trouble digesting. Carbs are a big issue because most people are amylase deficient so can't really digest them. Also grains contain a chemical called phyates which depletes zinc (unless you soak the grains). Some foods are really high in copper (beans, chocolate, leafy greens, nuts) and will keep you from absorbing zinc.

thanks!  Ok so i am beyond frustrated. So could this be die off? i had been taking 3 lac everyday recently and drinking kombucha. I am worse today and I just called my midwife and she called in a script for Cipro. I am beside myself with misery because I have been working so hard on healing my gut and helping my lo's gut too and now I am freaking out but i CAN NOT live with this UTI anymore. I am going to wait until the am to take it. But if I feel worse I think I am going to have to resort to it and hope that I can get things back on track after the treatment. :(

The really frustrating thing is that I personally did not have alot of symptoms of leaky gut. At least not many that have impacted my quality of life. I started this to help Nora and along the way started to feel like it would benefit me- who wouldn't be better off without sugar and flour? But at this point, I want to go back to my old self- eating mostly healthful (btw- I'm on the TF bandwagon) I feel like I shouldn't have looked under the proverbial rock- YKWIM?

Thanks for you info! I really appreciate it.

Also- why do you take Molbdenum? I actually have some but I am not sure why LOL

I do know what you mean, I started the diet thing for my daughter too while nursing and opened a whole can o worms for me. In my case it's been really good for me because it's helped me with some problems (depression) that I didn't realize were connected to my gut. But I hear you!

The kombucha and 3 lac are killing yeast but not bacteria. UTI is for me always a bacteria problem. You need a multi-strain high CFU proobiotic with lactobaccilus, bifidus, etc strains. Kefir is bacteria. That and a good bacteria probiotic could kick the UTI. But keep the other ones handy for after you kill the bacteria and get a yeast flare. Molybdenum is helpful for yeast because it detoxifies a toxic yeast metabolite.
