I would give him time to cool down. I don't know your dad so it is hard to tell how he reacts to things.. and at 80 years old he may not always react the way you or even he wants to react. I would just put your arms around him and tell him you love him and value all of him and all of the things he has done in life. Tell him his support means a lot to you and express that he is the very reason you want to bring up your child the best way you feel led. Tell him that it hurts for him to withhold his love from you just because he doesn't agree with this choice and that life is too short to be angry.
