Connecticut!

Anyone homeschooling in Connecticut? My dh is being transferred to NYC for work and we are passionate homeschoolers who aren't really big city types, but the NY laws seem so restrictive and the homeschool vibe in the burbs where we could live isn't great.

Soooooo...we were thinking, why not CT? Is it really easy to homeschool there? Does it depend on where you live? We will likely be close to the NY border, and i KNOW that's no hub of homeschooling and crunchy living haha innocent.gif BUT if the laws are friendly and there are activities in driving distance...it could be great!

Anyone know if there is a homeschool community in Fairfield County? Crunchiness...somewhere near? Other than nyc that is. Are the laws really what they seem?

Thanks!

Connecticut's very easy to homeschool in. Unless you've been enrolled in a CT public school system, you don't need to file anything. If you have, you send a withdrawal letter and that's it. You have the option of filing a Notice of Intent and/or going in once a year to review your portfolio with school personnel, but you don't have to. There's a great e-mail list for CT homeschoolers of any stripe called CTHomeschoolersInclusive@yahoogroups.com. There's also a group of homeschoolers on the discussion board at www.fclct.org (Families for Conscious Living CT). There are a number of co-ops of all sizes all over the state, ranging from a few families who get together once a month to one in Middletown that's about 120-150 families and meets twice a week.
