...that doesn't look like a children's project LOL. DD1 (age 7) got a sewing basket for her birthday and she wants to sew something (by hand) like Mom, but I can't think of anything. I didn't learn to sew until middle school :) What do you do with your beginning sewer, but that doesn't seem/look childish? Thanks!

How about something like this tea wallet from Wee Folk Art? If I'm remembering correctly they also have an index card holder on their site which might be more useful if she wants to make something for herself.
Even more simple would be a project like this tissue holder.Â
A simple heart cut out of two pieces of felt, stitched together and stuffed would be another nice idea and could be given as a special valentine to someone in the family. A design could also be embroidered on one of both sides of the heart before sewing them together.
Felt is easy for a beginning sewer to work with because it doesn't ravel.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! I started the girls on embroidery and they absolutely love it! We've made napkins and bookmarks, and random other things. Yay! And we'll definitely make a tea wallet (my kids are tea connoisseurs LOL). I remember doing latchhook when I was a kid and loved it, but it totally slipped my mind. I'll pick up a kit next time I'm out! Sweet! Thanks, ladies!
