Any accountants going through busy season here?

Ugh, it's that time of year.  I'm now working long hours, extra days and just trying to survive yet another busy season.  At least I have the knowledge that once it ends, I will be leaving on maternity leave and getting a nice break!    I despise this time of year though because it takes me away from my kids so much and leaves me so tired and stressed out that I feel like I'm a less than stellar mom.  I also let housework pile up.  Anyone else in the midst of the busy season?  If so, how do you cope?

This is my first year without a busy season and it is fantastic. My heart goes out to you and I totally get it. For years it was what I had to do even though I despised it. Try and do whatever you can to alleviate family pressure- can you work from home at night ( tax returns are very easy to do that with), or can you go in really early so you can leave in time to be home for dinner? Or can you run home for dinner and bed and then head back to the office?

If accounting is truly your passion, then you have the internal fortitude to stick it out. If it's just a paycheck you might want to look for other options; my experience was it only gets worse with more children.

Good luck!

I despise accounting and it is definitely not my passion.  I've looked into other careers and am hoping in 5-10 years I will be able to make the change.  Right now, it's a good paycheck that provides lots of financial stability for our family and my DH is able to be home with the kids most of the time.

I am a Controller for a publicly held corporation, so thankfully no tax returns.  However, I have audit schedules, financials, 10-Ks and other year end duties to work on.  I am trying very hard to come in early so I can be home for dinner and working extra late at night in order to minimize the weekends that I will need to work, but it's still a lot.

I'm an ESL teacher, but DH works for one of the big four accounting firms - and I'm due with baby #4 on 1/21. We'll have a six year old, a three year old, a fourteen month old, and a newborn.

SO not looking forward to this busy season!
