Only 30 weeks and baby is breech......

Okay, I know it's early to get worried but baby has been breech or transverse most of the time and the last 2 weeks has not moved from breech.  I'm just windering if there is anything anyone knows of that I should be doing now to get baby into right position.  My doctor just says we'll just wait and see and I want to be at least trying something to help baby.

You still have lots of time. My babe was transverse whenever we checked, breech @ 31 wks then head down @ 33 wks and has stayed head down. Anything you do right now probably won't stick anyway, the baby still has so much room to flip.

Check out spinning babies. I don't have the link right now, but do a search.

thank you. i'll check it out.

Definitely check out spinningbabies.com. They recommend exercises starting at 30 weeks so you are right on time! I just went through this with my SIL so breech babies are on my mind right now. Did your doctor give any indication of what his/her plan would be with a breech presentation at full-term? C-section no matter what or possible vaginal delivery depending on position?

Another vote for spinning babies, tons of great info on there.  I'm 28 weeks and my baby is breech now after having been transverse the past couple weeks.  If he doesn't turn on his own, my plan is to hit the spinning babies stuff hard and  see my chiro for the webster technique.  I asked my mw if there are any docs in the practice that attend vaginal breech births, and ther eis an ob that does them, so that was a weight off for me.  I'm very much planning on not needing his skills there, but knowing I wouldn't be an automatic c/s was reassuring.

whats your posture like? whenever you sit, you should NEVER sit reclining back. It may suck, but you should always be sitting straight up so that your belly button is pointing straight out in a line or down.. never up at an angle. Also, hanging out from time to time on all fours is another awesome way to get baby in a good position.. my shoulders start burning if i stay on all fours too long so i like to put the birthing ball under my chest and relax that way. swimming is great and doing headstands in the water (only when baby is breech, once baby turns you can stop the headstands) is another good way to turn baby.

i honestly think the most important one is posture.. its so easy/tempting to lean back while watching tv or playing on the computer or even sitting on the bed reading, i've had to remind myself frequently to watch out for it.. eventhough its less comfortable, its worth it! leaning back shrinks the space in the lower pelvis and really encourages baby to stay away from the head down position. im only 30 weeks too, but baby has been head down since 28. i know she can still turn and sometimes babies turn and turn and turn right up until birth, but im doing everything i can to keep her anterior and head down! my midwives don't do breech births either and im terrified of the god awful posterior back labor scared.gif

oh and if none of that works.. my midwives swear by acupuncture. they claim that NONE of their breech moms stayed breech after doing acupuncture to turn the baby. something to check out! good luck!

My daughter was transverse at 30 weeks, and she stayed transverse for several more weeks. She finally flipped head down and stayed there for a while. And then went breech at 35 weeks! And stayed there for a whole week.

But, at 36 weeks she turned head down and STAYED there. She was born vaginally, just fine, head down at 40.5 weeks.

Full disclosure: I did pelvic tilts daily, exercises and posturing from Spinning Babies, acupuncture w/moxibustion, and saw a chiropractor who did the Webster technique for me. I don't know whether any of that made a difference, but it certainly made me feel better!

Thanks for this thread!  I should have scrolled down a bit before I posted my question.  Oops!!!

i second the comment about acupuncture/moxa. One of my best friends is an acupuncturist and has turned many a baby into proper position.

I'd like to offer another perspective.  From someone who's had two stubbornly breech babies, I would get the Webster technique done as soon as possible. With my first breech, everyone kept telling me she had time to turn, don't worry. She'd been breech from 20 weeks with no variation, so when I tried Webster at 36 weeks (and moxa, acupuncture, hypnotherapy, spinning babies, etc.), she wouldn't budge.

This pregnancy was following the same pattern, stubborn breech from 20 weeks, so I made an appt for Webster at 30ish weeks and it worked right away.  24 hours later, he was not longer breech and 24 hours after that, his head was low in my pelvis and has stayed that way ever since (I'm now 37.5 wks).  I still go for weekly chiro adjustments to make sure everything stays aligned, but the very first treatment is what got him to flip. HTH!

Good advice homemademom! With my sister-in-law they kept assuring her she had so much time for him to turn...until she didn't. Breech, c-section and now a newborn with hip dysplasia that requires treatment. I've never had a breech myself but I am going to be vigilant this pregnancy about keeping it that way if at all possible.

I've just started seeing a chiropractor trained in the Webster technique and he said that it is most beneficial before 32 weeks - maybe that's why you had more success with it with your second baby?

I'm not sure crystalcm. My chiropractor didn't say that specifically, but he did seem to think that doing it earlier wasn't a problem. I think it's mostly from well-meaning doctors, midwives and friends that want to reassure a mom that a baby will turn--and statistically, most will--but when you're part of that 4 or 5% that still has a breech baby at delivery time, it's a hard pill to swallow that you could have started the "turning" techniques a lot earlier.

ETA: for anyone considering Webster, find a chiropractor that has a lot of experience with it.  Not all doctors are proficient. Mine has been doing them for over 20 years and he specifically trained with Dr. Webster.  He's only had 1 or 2 babies NOT turn in that time.

I've got a ton of tricks in my blog for turning breech babies. Sadly, none of them worked for me. ARGH! I did have a successful external version (also in my blog. Just search breech or external version) with my son, but that won't be possible with twins this time.

I'm 32 weeks and still trying everything (Webster, moxa, swimming, spinningbabies.com suggestions, rebozo, inversions, acupuncture, etc.)  Running out of room in there and running out of hope too.

I definitely think the earlier you start working on it the better. I didn't find out my son was breech until 34w, I think. This time I have frequent growth ultrasounds and they've been breech most of the time, so I've been more proactive.
