What to do about horrible neck pain?

I woke up in the middle of the night last weekend with horrible neck pain. I have no idea what caused it, all I was doing was sleeping & nursing DS, it just came out of nowhere. It's been 4 days now & it's not any better. I can barely move my head & the pain is extending down my left shoulder, not to mention giving me an intense headache in several locations. I haven't even been able to sleep because I cannot get into a comfortable position no matter what I do, & I keep switching from pillow to no pillow and back again trying to get the pain to subside.

I tried heat, that felt good initially but seemed to make it worse... I've been icing it frequently which does help but only while the ice is on it & for a short while afterward. I can't drive or really do much of anything. :( Cracking my shoulder a bunch of times seemed to give me better range of motion but I think it's made my shoulder itself hurt more. Ugh. Anyone ever had this happen??? Any other ideas on how to treat it? I can't even get to the store today, iced in, but I might be able to tomorrow if anyone has ideas...

I get frozen shoulder a lot. Here's what helps me:

1) Emergency chiropractor apt - he uses vibration, heat pad and manipulation. I recover about 50+% range of motion and pain decreases. He gives me gentle neck stretching exercises.

2) Massage session - get those vertebrae in place, and muscles to relax!

3) Acupuncture when it's really bad - totally helps

It takes me a few weeks to get back to normal. You might want to check to see if it's bursitis.

Neck pain can be low tyrosine (amino acid) that can result from adrenal fatigue, low thyroid, or parasite infection. If it's parasites, treat the parasites and try to avoid supplementing tyrosine as it is their preferred food source.
