Can someone ovulate the day before a neg OPK? Or on the same day as the neg?

I'm trying to figure out when the heck I conceived. I used just 2 OPKs this month for the very first time ever. I'm a total OPK novice.

I wasn't temping. I kept very detailed handwritten notes on all other fertility symptoms.

I took an OPK test on the evenings of Jan. 5th, and Jan. 6th. They were both very negative. I got my BFP on Jan 17th.

Looking back on my notes, the 5th & the 6th also just happen to be the days chock full of fertility symptoms. On the 4th, I found my cervix had suddenly moved forward, after being nearly impossible to reach 24 hours before. Everything "down there" was also very, very soft, swollen, and slippery (on Jan 5th & 6th), but hadn't been on the 3rd or 4th. Everything remained that way until Jan 8th when the swelling & slipperiness disappeared, & my cervix was firming up.

Also, I got my BFP on exactly 12DPO with all three of my last babies. If I was 12DPO when I got my BFP last night, then I would have conceived on Jan 6th. But I'd had those 2 neg. OPKs on the 5th and the 6th, so I couldn't have conceived on the 6th, right?

Could I have ovulated ON Jan 5th even though the OPK was neg the 5th & 6th?

We BD'd on Jan. 1st, 5th, and 7th. I only saw a smidge of EWCM way back on Jan 3rd. After that, I only had cloudy-white & semi-stretchy CM until the 9th when my cervix was firmly closed & I had no CM.

Geez I hope this isn't annoyingly confusing. I've read it over & over hoping that it's clear! I'm not very good at being succinct. I do appreciate any help!

It could have been that you just surge at a different time of day than when you were testing. For example, I took an OPK at 2:30pm and it was definitely not positive, but at midnight it was very positive. Next day I took another one at 2pm, again, not positive, but at 12:30am it was even more positive than the night before! Only way I could have caught my surge to test positive on the OPK was by testing at least twice in the day.

Oh thanks so much GreenMamma! I didn't know that about OPKs. I didn't know anything about OPKs! :p I really had no business even using them, LOL!

I'm going to go with the guesstimate that I conceived on the 5th. Wellll, I guess it would have been the 6th since we BD'd on the 5th way late at night. :p

And actually your LH surge (the hormone you are testing for) is 24-48 BEFORE you ovulate... so if you ovulated on the 5th and tested on the 5th, you probably missed your surge all together. :)
