Questions about Nourishing Traditions...

Thread Starter

I've been reading a few traditional foods blogs for a while so I decided to pick up Nourishing Traditions at the library last week.  I've really just been skimming it but I have a few questions:

1. I noticed in a few recipes it calls for unbleached white flour.  Not white winter wheat or anything.  Just white flour.  Why???

2.  The breastfeeding info seemed, well, not very BF friendly.  Is it just my perception?

3.  Why on earth is herbal tea a "compromise food"?

I'm not trying to sound hyper-critical, there is some great info.  I just was lost on a few things.

I'll take a shot at those - I think there are a few dessert type recipes that she "allows" white flour because as a rare thing, it won't kill you. Also white flour has no phytates (possibly its only redeeming quality other than that it makes some recipes "work" better than whole grain flour).

No, she's not particularly bf friendly. Lots of talk about that in previous threads if you care to search it out.

I may be off base but I think that the herbal tea is a compromise food because it isn't as health supporting as a probiotic drink, has no good fats, and is often taken with sweetener.
