In my experience (with friends and also from being active in this forum for a while), work at home positions that will actually support your family with decent income are usually negotiated by a mama who is already employed by a company.  Working from home has many benefits (esp for breastfeeding when they are young like ours are right now!), but some mamas make the mistake of thinking they don't need childcare if they work from home.  There was a good thread about that a while back and I found it to link to it here.  Even if you are working from home, childcare will still be an issue, because in reality you can't get much actual work done with an infant...and especially when they start crawling! :)

Some work at home jobs I can think of off the top of my head: sewing (diapering stuff or other), medical transcription, customer service (some companies will set up a phone line at your house for you to answer customer service calls from your home), maybe editing jobs of some sort, maybe website or graphic design?.  I think the best starting place is to ask yourself what specific skills or experience you have, and then try to find a job that will let you use those skills but work out of your home....which may be easier said than done.

Best of luck to you! I hope you find something great!

www.wahm.com  has quite a few listings posted. You'll have to do your due diligence and research the leads, but many of them are legit.

I was just accepted as an agent for LiveOps. At home call center work.

I'm going to have to figure out some form of child care, though- the noise of a baby or child in the background is completely unacceptable for this kind of work.

I actually had started the thread that laurabfig was referencing about needing childcare while working from home.  Now that I am a month into my job, I can see that you all were absolutely right.  I have someone here helping me four days a week while I work, and even with that help, it's a tough balancing act.  I love that I'm able to continue breastfeeding and can see DS throughout the day, and I feel so fortunate to be able to be home, but at the same time - yikes.  Trying to schedule phone calls around his nursing schedule is tricky, and there is always the risk that he will be crying in the background. (We have a small house, so even if the nanny is soothing him, you can still hear him from the office.)

But, back to your original question: I found my WAH job because I had done some consulting/freelance work for this company earlier.  They had a new position open up, and were looking for someone to be based in the mid-Atlantic region.  I live in Pennsylvania, so it worked out.  I think if I hadn't known people there and worked with them before, it would have been tougher to get the job.  Do you have contacts with companies you've worked for/with in the past?  What kind of work are you looking for?
