Morning Sickness at Nearly 26 Weeks Please Help!

Yes, I know it sounds crazy, but it happened with my previous pregnancy as well. I was so sick I had to take a leave of absence from my job. I have no morning sickness in the early weeks, then I hit this late and BOOM! I have a doctor's appointment this morning, but I'm so sick that I can't possibly drive myself to the office. My dh missed a week of work (and pay) last week due to an ice storm and we can't afford for him to miss anymore time.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything that works? I'm so nauseous I can't even think straight, but I hope this makes sense. Please

I have not experienced this but my good friend has had later sickness (2nd and 3rd trimester) with all three of her pregnancies.  For her I think she ended up taking an acid reducer (maybe something like pepcid?) and that actually helped her a lot!

I don't think she thought it was a heartburn/acid thing but her doc helped her figure that out and although did not cure everything it helped a lot.

Good luck, hope you get some relief!

Okay, are you ready for a "crazy" answer?  ;)  First of all, let me say I am in my 7th preganancy and they have all been different with regards to nausea, etc..  One thing I notice is that the healthier I am eating the better I feel most of the time.  There is always that one food that makes me fee yucky and mostly I am of the thinking that that is my body's way of saying to stay away from that for the time.  I especially feel good if I eat a lot of apples and cucumbers for some reason with this pregnancy.  Sugar and sugary things always make me feel sick.  Before this pregnancy we decided to cut out corn syrup in our family.  It is in everything you buy, so it is pretty hard to do.  What I have found is that I have lost my addiction to sweets and things that are sweet that used to be my favs no longer taste as appealing.  The biggest thing is that I have had ZERO morning sickness with this pregnancy.  I think there is a connection with the corn syrup.  And let me use Thanksgiving and Christmas as an example.... for both we were with family that still use corn syrup and they had all the sweets that had extra doses of it (pecan pie, etc.).  I was soooooo very nauseaous after eating with them and it lasted a couple of days.

The other thing... the  crazy thing is something I heard about from a blog I read (www.lifeinashoe.blogspot.com) called the "bean diet" that is specifically for morning sickness.  So, the short story of it is that you would cook a pot of beans and divide it into daily portions and eat some every day throughout the day.  This does not mean you are eating beans for every meal, but the way I understand it is that it is almost like taking your vitamins.  You might eat 4 tablespoons every few hours or something like that.  It is a matter of getting plenty of protein and iron, I think.... but in a natural way.  Like I said, it seems a little weird, but this blogger has MANY children and used this with her last pregnancy because she is normally very sick during pregnancy and she swears it did the trick for her.

Also, there are some pressure points in the wrist and the hand that you can massage to help with morning sickness.  Supposedly, there are even some special bracelets that will hold pressure on these pressure points througout the day that are supposed to help.

I'm not as sick as you are, but I have to say that when I got a prescription acid reducer (proton pump inhibitor), my nausea totally went away.  I hadn't even realized how sick I felt until I suddenly felt better.  Hope you get some relief!

I agree with PPs - it could very well be GERD.  Once I was diagnosed with that, and properly medicated (it can take a few tries with different meds), I was a whole new person.  Wish I had known in the early days when I thought I was slowly being killed by the pregnancy.....

Made it to the doctor yesterday, and they gave me a prescription for phenergan and one for reglan. I alternate them every six hours and feel much better. I think the reglan is for the heartburn and my goodness I feel so much better. They both make me sleepy, but at least now I don't feel like I'm living in a washing machine.

I'm in the same boat- still throwing up at 22 weeks.

I want to be training for my (hopefully) unmedicated homebirth like a marathon, and getting in shape for an event that seems like it will require athleticism, but honestly I just feel so feeble and way less healthy than I did pre-pregnancy.

im so sorry!!! i had morning sickness with this one up until exactly 20 weeks. i was absolutely miserable. i had pretty much accepted that i would simply have morning sickness the entire 9 months because i couldnt believe it had lasted so long and i tried everything to make it go away..but nothing worked.

im glad you've been able to get it under control!!

So far the phenergan and reglan are working for me. I don't have to take it every day, and I still have some bad days, but it's much better than it was. Have you talked to your doctor about getting something for it?

You could try some B6. Worked for me, although I had mine 1st tri.

Worked so well I ate a bit more than perhaps I should have, lol, from early on. OH well.

I *am* on B6.

Does ginger provide any relief? You can get candy chews or make tea.

Lemon/citrus helped a tiny bit for me as well. And oddly enough, soda like Sprite or cold Coke was comforting.

I'm not suggesting they will HELP help, but it may give you a teensy bit of relief.

Hope you figure out a better solution :(

Thanks for the suggestions!

Basically the hospital has just told me to come in as much as I need for IV fluids. I'm on diclectin, which is a B6 and antihistamine (I think some of you call in Unisom) combo, and gravol suppositories or IV gravol as necessary.

I find ginger really painful/ burn-y to throw up. Sometimes really basic carbohydrates like crackers seem to settle my stomach, as does sour candy for whatever reason, and some days I can't even keep water or gravol down.

I'm basically just waiting it out. I think we might adopt our next one...
