URGENT need for NJ exemption advice

Thread Starter

My school (in New Jersey) recently sent me a letter stating that they didn't have my daughter's exemption on file (how convenient; it was the FIRST form I submitted when registering!), and now they have an urgent need for a new form that has an actual explanation. Apparently the guidelines changed this year, and there is a statute that states the need for an explanation on religious grounds.

First instinct is to say that religious freedom dictates that the state not question religious practice. I mean, what if my reason doesn't satisfy them!?

Anyway, does anyone have any examples of reasons they have give that HAVE BEEN accepted?

I need this form in the next 24 hours...but I'm prepared to write a provisional letter and replace it...

Again, I'm in New Jersey. It'd be helpful if you are, too. Please email me at vespersongs at hotmail dot com.

Thanks a million!!!

"This Q&A put out by the NJDHSS includes the new regulations along with Janet DeGraff's Memo. See pages 24-25 for section regarding vaccine exemptions." If the school says that your exemption is not acceptable, I'd ask them (in writing) for their objections and the exact part of the law that your exemption is not in compliance with. Schools will verbally ask for all sorts of things in exemption letters that are not required by law.

Ask the school if anything has changed since this was written. http://www.state.nj.us/health/cd/documents/religious_exemption.pdf If so, ask for a copy of the new regulation/law.
