My child who hits

Hi guys :)

I have a beautiful 2 year old boy who is very compassionate, articulate for his age and really seems to comprehend what I say to him but he can't stop hitting. He seems to do it whe he gets interrupted and taken away from something suddenly which is totally understandable but he also does it for no apparent reason around friends that he's had his whiole life...he also hits/scratches me when we are playing. I have tried time outs, gently explaining to him why it hurts people when he hits, showing him the crying child, talking about kind boys and mean boys etc...and nothing seems to be working. I have been told by many women that it's just a phase and that it will pass but some days his behavior makes me dislike him and it taints all our time together. I am home with him full time and give him attention and love and I don't know what else to do. Does anyone have any thoughts or advise? Anything would be sooo much appreciated :)

Thank you, Emma

Sometimes 2 year olds (and 3 year olds and 4 year olds...) just haven't developed the impulse control to not hit.  I think you just have to keep reminding and stick close to him around other kids until the impulse control "clicks."  He will be able to control himself eventually if you just keep on message!
