Food Dyes - do they cross

Does anyone know if food dyes (not organic coloring) crosses the blood/brain barrier?  If so, is it all dyes or specific ones?  I ask because my son appears to be so sensitive that he's experiencing epic meltdowns within 5-10 minutes of ingestion and it made me wonder if it's a blood/brain barrier thing because it's so fast.

yes,i believe they do. My son is allergic to red food coloring. Within 3 mins of ingesting, when he was small (like 3 yrs old),he would start banging his head on tile floor, chasing me around and biting me and ripping out my hair and scratching my face  (lol,i thought he was possessed or something and then i read a book by dr rupp describing exactly what he was going through) He is now 15 and does really well on not eating any food coloring, but once in a while he gets some unknowingly, and the whole family knows it----he gets a weird look, starts acting totally out of character, like jekyll and hyde.
