Need link to new food allergy study

I read the abstract for this study - it was really, really new - about how there was no difference in the rates of allergies in infants who were delayed allergenic foods versus those that weren't.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about and have that link for me?

TIA

Replying so as to bump your post up, I want to read this article too, it was mentioned in a thread somewhere else but not referenced.

Sounds interesting. I was planning on EBFing for as long as I could to reduce the risk of allergies but if it doesn't matter...

It's really debatable whether it matters or not. Personally, I wouldn't change anything about starting my girl on solids late, because I just don't believe there's enough evidence of allergies being increased by delaying solids, and it makes so much more sense to me that we waited until she showed signs of being able to handle eating (sitting well, no tongue thrust, interest in food, etc). I am a firm believer that you can find research on the internet to back up just about anything...

Here is a thread that was active last week that has a lot of information in it. The link to the study that I think you are referring to is posted in this thread by MJB:

Aimee,

While I generally agree with your point that you can find anything on the internet to backup anyone's theory, I have to say that as often as parenting styles and what we consider to be "normal" have changed, I think we have to look at new research. I read about the study and it made a lot of sense to me. But, even before I read the study I always found the theories about virgin gut flora to be completely against my intuition. While I think that babies are meant to have mostly mama milk until they are about a year old, I see nothing wrong with tasting and even eating at a very early age. Every baby is different and some respond poorly to food early, but some (like mine) have no problems with it. But, my kid could reach for food, sit up, and had no tounge thrust at 4.5 months.

See, that tells me your baby was probably ready at an earlier age. While I probably would have still waited until 6 months for my own personal comfort, nevertheless those signals seem much more natural to me than a particular date on a calendar. smile.gif
