Interesting.  Thanks!

Wow, who knew?!

The thing that interested me most, on a personal level, was how their pumps can get mold growing in the motor. Ew! Think I'll stick with my Philips hand pump and throw out the Medela electric, which I bought used (apparently making the chance of contamination higher- I thought I was safe as I bought new cups) and don't use anymore.

ya know... I read something similar (a few things actually) before DS was born, so I chose an Ameda PY. I had the worse experience. :( It just doesn't work correctly, which, when you are working FT, you NEED  a pump to work correctly. I called the company, and they were "eh" about it. Telling me I could send it in for it to be repaired, which would take 12+ weeks. What would I use for a pump then? I probably could have gone to borrow one form WIC, but I HAD one, one that I did research on and "bucked" the trend by NOT getting a PIS. Which made it impossible to get replacement parts. Which you can get Medela parts at Target.

I guess what I'm saying, where the rubber hits the road, Ameda failed me, and that speaks to me much louder than any code (that the US doesn't enforce) infractions. I would still rather have a closed system. But I will take a pump that works over a barely working pump.

thanks for the read, I was hestitant to buy a medela because of the open system and also the high price tag and went with an ameda PY instead, but I haven't heard of the hygeia pump brand before. Babies r us has ameda pumps and parts now to the PP, so they are readily available. now...

Oh, good to know! It still doesn't work quite right :/ and babies R us is about 30 min aways, BUT beats ordering online and waiting on the mail!

I see the Lanisoh (sp) pumps look a lot like the Ameda, are they the same? Just saw these pop up recently (well, I just started paying attention again recently, I haven't pumped  in about a year)
