Pay Cut

I am so dissapointed right now.

I moved to this job a year ago despite only a 8 week maternity leave and an hour + commute each way everyday.  I felt the sacrifices were justified to a certain degree because I made good money.

When I was hired, they told me I would get a base plus a bonus.  I just found out yesterday that they are changing the plan to a base which is $10K per year LESS than I make right now plus a bonus.  The bonus is paid quarterly with it weighted 75% in the 4th quarter so basically, if I hit 100% of my goal, the bonuses that I will make each quarter will barely put me up to the pay rate that I already was in. It means that I am bringing home $800 less per month after taxes.   I feel so sick at the unfairness of this.

I guess this is the impetus that I needed to find something new.  Good luck in this economy.

I'm really sorry you are going through this.  Somewhat similarly, years ago I took a 10K pay cut when taking a job.  But, for the first time had a bonus, so, while it impacted my bi-weekly pay, it was made up once a year.  What I didn't know, was that I'd very quickly hit the pay ceiling.  And that it.would.never.be.lifted.  I was there for 7 years.  My bonus fluctuated with the stock market, so, you know it took a nose dive and then was very slow to go back up.

Hang in there and hopefully you will find a better opportunity.  I like to remind myself at these times that "every set back is a set up for a come back".  Maybe this will actually propel you forward.

hug.gif sorry that you're getting a pay cut. If you can get by, then maybe you can bide your time and look around until you find a better option. I agree with a PP, sometimes things that we think are obstacles turn out to lead to much better places. Good luck!

THanks for the replies.

I agree, this commute has been killing me so this is just the push that I needed to get out.

Ugh, that really sucks greensad.gif But hopefully it will end up getting you to a better place with a much better commute. I did the hour each way for a summer internship in college and it sucked so much!
