What is PBS KIDS PLAY?

  • PBS KIDS PLAY! is the only online school readiness program that customizes the learning experience to your child's level across 20 different subject areas. Your subscription to PLAY! gets you access to more than 50 exclusive educational activities that you won't find anywhere else – and all of them match with national educational standards and benchmarks. PLAY! adjusts based on your child's individual learning achievements, unlocking exciting new challenges. A personal progress chart for each child shows the results as he or she advances through the curriculum. PLAY! also has built-in safety features, including the option to set a time limit.

neither of the boys have ever been on the computer before -- and this would mainly be fore the 5 yo (kindy age int eh fall) though the 3 yo would have to get to play a little too with momma.  I am not intrested in them doing much computer -- but it might make a nice reward for the older.

wondering if any has any expereince with it.

My sister got it for DS's birthday last year. Its a nice program, I'm not sure its worth the cost. PBS has so much free on-line, including pbs kids island. The free stuff is what my kids tend to prefer anyhow. They do have a free trial of the PBS PLAY site available. Its worth looking at and seeing what you think.  I will say my kids loved it for about the first month, then got tired of it. They tend to watch the shows available and do the "non-leveling" games rather than the more academic ones. If you are really looking for academics, something like Jump Start (which I've never tried)  might be a better choice. If you are looking for a fun reward though, its overall a good program, pretty much what you would expect from PBS.
