Trying to decide where to start

Ever since having my daughter 4 years ago I have been wanting to become a doula. I am a military wife so right now were stationed in NC but we transfer in two years and hope to go back to Alaska. There is one doula I know of on the island that we hope to go back to but thats all I know of. I know there are so many different directions to go in so Im really at a loss for where to start. There is a dona workshop coming up about an hour away that Im considering but still unsure.

Take a look at ALL the training orgs... toLabor, DONA, CBI, birthworks... make sure that your philosophies on birth mesh with those of the org you choose to train with.  I chose ALACE at the time, now toLabor, because I liked their philosophy best.  Then my partner and I trained at the same time and she went with DONA... and I was REALLY glad I had chosen toLabor.  Because I found out through HER training that I had had the right feeling about their requirements and their training style.  Take a look at them all, call doulas who have trained through them, and find out what they love and when they don't love about the orgs.  Then train.  And start doing births.  :)
