Overnight dipe for toddler who doesn't want to wear one?

My 2-year old has been in undies during the day for months and would strongly prefer to be in undies at night as well.  But, she's never dry at night.  She will - sometimes - wake and let me know when she needs to pee.  She will also often sleep through peeing.  We cosleep, she's right next to me, and I hate waking up in a puddle of urine (well, really, who would enjoy it ;-).  If I get her up and put her on the potty, she'll pee, but then I have to rouse & get out of bed, which sort of defeats one of the big reasons for cosleeping.  And she does sometimes sleep through the night (other nights she nurses 1-3 times, which is not an issue), so I hate for both of us to have to be awake since it might be one of those nights when we could actually sleep straight through.

We use a random collection of ancient Fuzzi Bunz with hemp liners and several other pocket-style diapers with liners, all covered with a wool wrap.  She's not a hugely heavy wetter at night, but does pee 1-3 times and a pull-up style cloth training pant isn't absorbent enough, even with a wool cover over it.  Rarely, DH and I can tease, coax, and manhandle her into her diaper without too much of a fight.  Some nights DS can get her into her diaper easily (go, big brother!).  Other nights I nurse her to sleep, then put the diaper on her, but about half the time she wakes up and has a total fit, ending up with the diaper off and her wide awake again, even when I wait until she is apparently deeply asleep.  Usually I'm too tired to stay awake and try to get the diaper onto her, so I don't really like this option even when she stays asleep.

I really think if I could find something she could put on by herself, it would make her happy.  She is, after all, 2, and wants to do EVERYTHING by herself.  Any cloth diapers that fit that description & are heavy enough for nighttime use?

She should be able to pull on any number of pocket dipes on her own if you've already stuffed and snapped them.  If she's not pooping at night, then you don't have to make sure it's all that snug - just snug enough to stay on.

My fave for night-time is Happy Hempys - they just came out with a OS snap.  They do need a cover, and wool is the only thing that works for us.  For a DIYer, I'd go with something like Babyology (which is my favorite) - they're just like pants.

If you'd prefer one piece rather than dipe and cover, then I'd probably go with Knickernappies, which are a regular pocket, and they will probably fit the longest, since they have the highest rise.  You can play with the stuffing to find what you need - my 16 mo needs a TON of absorbency through the night, so we use 2 PFs and 2 heavy duty doublers, but it sounds like a regular stuffer or maybe even a tri-fold PF should get you through just fine.

A side/hip snapping diaper like the Trimsies, Hippy Hippy Snap, or Pretty Pure Infinity will allow her to pull them up on her own, with the added bonus of just being able to unsnap it in the morning if she's wet. All three of those are patterns to sew your own, but you can find plently of WAHM sellers on Hyena cart or Etsy.

Another possibility is a bath towel over a wool or fleece blanket to protect the bed. :) That's what I do with my DD, unless she wants to wear a diaper (I always give her the choice). It works pretty well and I keep a stack of fresh towels near the bed so I can change a wet one out in the middle of the night. I also keep a little potty right by the bed so I can pee her without actually getting out of bed myself...seems to rouse me less.

Thanks for the ideas.  Only 2 of our nighttime dipes work as pull-ups, but I hadn't even thought of trying, so at least that's 2 nights resolved.  I'd like to use a little potty, but there's no room for it (our bedroom is wall-to-wall beds ;-) and she refuses to use it anyhow.  And although a towel protects the bed, it doesn't protect me!  I'll look into the other diapers listed.  Hopefully she'll night wean herself soon & be able to stay dry all night. . .
