Does this sound familiar?

My 8-mo-old has started getting really fussy at night over the past week, and DH & I are wondering if it's teething or something else. Just curious if someone might have had a similar experience and can give some insight.

DS started sleeping 8+ hours a night right at the start of the new year, but last week things have changed again. First, last week he had a nasty casre of diarrhea & over all liquid BMs. No fever or anything. He's had an on-going cold, but nothing too concerning. We went ahead and went back to basically a BRAT diet for infants & he nursed a lot. I realize that this could loosen the stools, but he was still having at lot of diarrhea blowouts.

This week the diaper troubles have resolved, but he is waking up ALOT. On Tuesday he had a fever of about 101-102. Then on Wednesday night he woke up every hour between midnight & 7 (when we got up). The other nights have been slightly better, but still up 3-5 times. Last night he slept from 7-10:30, then was up until midnight screaming, and then slept until about 6. When he's up, he's totally inconsolable. He won't stop screaming until I nurse him. He's mostly fine during the day, but also displays this behavior when he gets tired.

I haven't felt or seen and evidence of teeth coming through. I've given him baby Tylenol... don't really know if it helps or not. I know that this will pass as quickly as everything else has, but his behavior is just very off and a little concerning to us. Being first-time parents, we are totally lost and don't know what to do or how to help.

Thanks for the comments & suggestions.

Cecilia is to the day exactly a month older than your baby, and about a month ago is when the 8 month "regression" started. I have that in quotes, because regression is sort of a misnomer. It's just that sleep gets really heavily affected by brain development, and that's what's happening here. Cecilia's starting to get better at sleeping longer stretches again, so I hope a month is about it for you, too!

DD also had a sleep regression around that time (and before and after that ;) ) but with the bowel changes and fever I'd be tempted to wonder if he has a mild virus or something. Or could be related to teething as well. Our sleep regressions that involved developmental milestones did not involve bowel changes or fever.
