Lithium - 2 weeks in and our positive results so far...

Our 7 year old, Emma, started Lithium Orotate (the natural supplement form) http://www.parenting-child-development.com/lithium-orotate-for-adhd.html a little more than 2 weeks ago.  It was recommended to us by a new doctor she's seeing who is an md in internal medicine but also a specialist in heavy metal toxicity.

The doctor explained to us that lithium deficiency can often accompany heavy metal toxicity and cause many of the problems we've seen in Emma since her 5 month old vaccine reaction.  These issues include:

- severe mood swings

- sensory issues

- tics

- tendency to jumble words and speak in incomplete thoughts/sentences

- violent rages including prolonged high pitched screaming

- panicy behavior; jumpiness

- ADHD issues in school

Well, about four or five days into the supplementation with the Lithium, we noticed that she seemed more level.  She moved differently...seemed much calmer.  The improvements continued and she has been getting better and better every day.

In the past she would often wake up rubbing her eyes, seeming dizzy and unstable...uncooperative, unable to properly dress herself without assistance and ready to explode into a tantrum at any moment.  Well for several days in a row, she wakes up looking clear...happy...

She is communicating much better.  She doesn't get easily frustrated.  She's not falling into violent tantrums at the drop of a hat.

Yesterday after school, she had her first "bad" moment in several days, and it didn't even begin to compare to what we typically see. She wasn't happy with me because she wanted to do one thing and I suggested another...and she slowly went into a minor tantrum situation.  She even screamed her high pitched scream...but it was...diluted somehow.  It wasn't as forceful.  It was short lived rather than prolonged.  Usually she screams until she's red in the face and exhausted herself.  I convinced her to lie down and try to rest her eyes because she'd had a long day at school, and she reluctantly did.  Within five or ten minutes, she was out and napped for an hour.  When she woke up, she was back to feeling great.

I wonder if the Lithium is helping her sleep better...?  That's what it seems like to me and my husband.  We're thrilled and hoping these effects continue.

Checked out of curiosity-- because my dh is on lithium and wanted to see what you had to say. I don't know a whole lot about it. But if it helps, it makes him sleep hard and fast and he's out cold for the night. Going to check out your link now. Glad you found something that works for her! smile.gif

Thanks everyone.

Her teacher has also noticed the same improvements.  She said she is speaking in complete sentences...finishing her work rather than turning in incomplete assignments...handwriting is better...she is calmer and seems happier...

Please, if anyone has any information on this supplement, let me know!  I believe we are on the right track for getting her better.

Maiasaura, Is he on the supplement form, or the prescription form?  If it's the supplement form, how much does he take? Just curious.  I'm wondering if I would benefit from the supplement, but I'm pregnant and the bottle says that pregnant and nursing mothers should not take it.

He's on prescription. He needs pretty heavy-duty meds, unfortunately.
