Teething and running nose?? Or could it be the start of a cold...

Hi mommas.

My 7month old has two little bottom teeth and I am waiting for some more to sprout.  Her first 2 teeth were no big deal at all.  She was restless at night but never cried or fussed.

However, yesterday was a really fussy day for her.  I nursed her frequently.

This morning she woke up with a runny nose.  I've been wiping it all morning.  It is clear, and at first glance, I just figured it was drool all over her face  (she is drooling tons) but indeed it is coming from her nose.

Could this just be a sign of teething?? She didn't have a running nose when she broke in her first teeth. I've heard that teething does not cause running noses but many mommas swear it does.

My fear is that she is coming down with a cold :(

I have a cold and I am praying she doesn't get it.

Is there anything natural I can give her( if it is a cold) to help fight it off now before it gets worse???

Any info or personal experience would be much appreciated.  Thank you!!

Interestingly enough, Cecilia cut her bottom two teeth with no fuss, no fever, no runny nose, nothing beyond a bit more drool. Her upper three, on the other hand, caused her a lot more problems. Fussiness, runny nose, even more drool, etc. So yes, I do think it's possible that it's teething even if she didn't have symptoms for the first two.

I haven't heard of anything that is safe to give little babies for staving off colds, beyond probiotics. If you don't already use those, you could certainly start.

This is only my experience on this from having 3 babies.

No, I don't think runny nose is from teething. I don't think a fever is either.

I think during a baby's first year, their immune systems are being challenged everday. It just happens to be that they are dealing with a little bacteria or virus at the same time.

I think they can get an infection from teething. Bacteria can get into the gums or drool drain could pool up and help an ear infection brew possibly.

My DD2 just had all 4 top and bottoms come in with in 4 days. Whew! The last one cut through today.

No runny nose at all.

I hope I sleep tonight. I think her little gums are sore though, so probably not.

Thanks for the input ladies. Perhaps it could be teething related as you mentioned Aimee :)

mom2happy: totally makes sense that their immune systems get challenged everyday.  I hope you get some sleep tonight! :)
