Askew~ which picture flash card apps do you use? The one that you can take your own pictures and record your own voice?  That would be great.

It's called Smart Baby Apps. We have my first words and my home. In each program there are several categories of premade cards. Then there is a section for you to do your own, called my Photos. What I like best about them is that you can record your own voice, and that you can set them to auto turn, so you just start the program and it will run through all the cards in your folder without you having to scroll.

DS is on the spectrum and i am in the market to make a purchase this week. I have looked between the Ipad and the Tablets and really think i am going to buy a tablet. I like the feature that the tablet has a camera and can skype with family. I think this will help him improve his social skills and family really love to see and talk to him as well as my older DD. I am having a hard time finding apps similar to the ones out for the ipad anyone out there have a tablet and can suggest some apps or websites that might have links.

The new iPad has a camera and can skype etc too. It comes out next month. You might want to wait, as the apps for kids are way better for the iPad.

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to say this was such a helpful thread as I have been researching for my DD with special needs.  We are purchasing our ipad 2 this week, and having the software installed through a consultation company (one that fits tech to people with SN)...and then we start training the SLP, and her team of teachers and parents ;) on the application. DD got to test out the communication App...I believe it was Proloquo2???  It was so amazing to see her communicate so easily.  I also wanted to add that the case is super important as well as an upgraded speaker if you are going to have your child take this to school.  They had a case that we could purchase through VOICE, and it has a handle, but I would love to shop around a bit more, as I feel like there has to be more options out there.  ANyway, just stopping in to say thanks, and we are soooo excited to get our ipad!

We love our iPad too. I was amazed at how quickly my dd learned to use it and navigate around on it. We also have the otter box case and I highly recommend it. If you are interested, here is a link to a post I did on our favorite apps: We love our iPad too ! K was already pointing before we got ours, & her fine motor is pretty good, but I still noticed a difference very soon after getting it. Here is my blog about our favorite apps:
