Weird thing I did in labour

I think it was right before transition. It was right before my water broke, or was it after? hmmm cant quite remember. My water broke after a couple of intense contractions where I gave a slight push at the height of them. Anyway, back to the noise.....

I was floating on my back in the birth pool, and during a contraction I started a sort of humming with an open mouth in a musical/singing way. Like a long "ahhhhhhhhhhhhh" in different pitches during the same contraction. The contractions weren't as pressure or painful as they were before this. Then I flipped onto hands and knees and had the contractions where my water broke. Shortly after that I felt loads of pressure and urge to push kicked in.

I'm just curious if anyone has done something similar?

not exactly the same, but I did a lot of open mouthed "ohhhhhhhh"-ing during my labor, lots of different pitches during the same contraction.  I felt like it really redirected some of the intensity "out the top" and I don't think I could have stopped if I tried.  I hear a lot of different types of vocalizations from women in labor, most of which I'm sure they couldn't replicate when not in labor (I know I can't!).

Oh sure, those sound like lovely and normal labor noises.  :)

One of the coolest things I've ever seen is a mom "sing" like that through a couple final trasition contractions! She was so in touch with her insticts and her own personal labor process. I thought it was great.

Perfectly normal, instinctual response to the pushing phase.  That's why Hypnobabies talks about "Ahh Pushing" in the section about the second stage.  It keeps the face and throat relaxed and open, which means the bottom is open, too!
