we have the peg pereggo infant seat... good until they are 30lbs, but my DS is too tall for it even though he's only 20lbs.  any suggestions for a safe next seat?

Well, that depends, I suppose, on what you're looking for. Personally, a high rear facing weight limit is my top priority. We have a Graco MyRide 65, which rear faces to 40 lbs; however, I hear that its shell is on the shorter side, which is fine for my petite girl but might not be for your baby. There is a Family Safety sub-forum here; you might want to post over there for recommendations for a taller babe. Good luck! smile.gif

You're looking at convertibles, there is a wide list of great options! You'll want to share your budget, your child's stats (weight and height) and your vehicle make/model. And you'll get lots more help over in Family Safety, so I'm sending it there! Best luck!

I have a Britax Marathon Convertibile we've had since the baby was born. They are supposed to be some of the safest seats out there. I think it goes from 5-70lbs. She fit fine in it on the way home from the hospital at 9lbs. She hates being in a cart seat, but I like the seat a lot. I can see us using it for a very long time.

There is no difference in safety between a $40 seat vs a $300 seat.  If used correctly, they are equally safe (Britax was popular for a while, but there are seats that last a lot longer that are a lot cheaper)

Also, Britax convertibles, esp the ones that are not the brand new ones, have VERY high bottom slots.

My ds at 15months and maybe 17-18lbs, his shoulders are still 1/2" below the bottom slots here (they must be at or below the shoulders for rearfacing)

OP, What is your budget for a new carseat?  What car do you drive?

My favorites are the Radian (esp the XTSL, we have 2 of them!), MyRide, complete air, TrueFit, and the new Graco smartseat.

I ran into this same problem.  DS is only 17 pounds but he's 28 inches long and our infant seat only goes to 28.5 inches.  We were given an Evenflo Triumph Advance before he was born.  Going to try it out this weekend, I'll post about it after we get it installed...

I really like the Britax and feel she is safe in it... We got it checked out, too, at the local safety place for car seats and they said it was all good. This is her at only a few days old. My concern for later is that those wings on the side of her head might really annoy her. She hates being strapped in and the lack of view on either side might make her fussy, too. If that happens I will get her the one without the wings and this one will be used for the next baby we have. I am going to keep her rear facing in this seat for a long time.

I used the $40 Graco seat for dd and she fit in it for a long time even though she was a tall child.  They are made to fit until kids hit about four and my dd could have rear faced longer than she did had I known that rear facing was something that was important (she was about 18 months when I gave into pressure from family and turned her even though she was still under the weight limit for rear facing).  I went to the car seat safety people at the hospital every year to make sure it was installed correctly and still a good fit for her.

Our budget is not a problem because we have Grandma buying it.  We will be buying 2, one for our Toyota Prius (2009) and Honda Civic Hybrid (2007). and thanks for the info on the other sub forum.  :)
