Sigh....finished the Night Huntress series and now I'm lost! What to read - recs for super...

Ok, I finished the Night Huntress and Night Huntress World books by Jeaniene Frost and I LOVED them.  Seriously loved them.  Really fantastic characters, tons of action, lots of super steamy romance etc.....  Seriously great books.

Anyway, now that I'm done with them, I feel lost!  I need something else to read.

I've tried Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series and I'm really struggling to get through the first one.  Her writing is so choppy I find it hard to follow.  Plus, the main character in the first book has nearly raped his love interest multiple times.  Not loving that.......

So, anyone have any recommendations?  I'm not really into young adult books.  I like adult books - super steamy paranormal romance, lots of action, good writing, interesting stories etc....

I'm on the third Night Huntress and love them!

I know you've read the BDB series and I think Sookie?

I have the Kresley Cole series on my list.

Have you tried the Mercy Thompson books by Patricia Briggs? I really liked the first one and have the second on request from the library. The Fever series by Karen Marie Moning? Um I also liked the first Rachel Morgan book Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison and I'll be reading more of that series.

Have you read Anita Blake? I didn't really like it and from what I hear happens as the series goes on I know I won't like it but just throwing it out there.

Oooh!  Aren't the Night Huntress books wonderful?  I can't wait for the next one!  I miss the characters ;)  It's hard to move on to something else after them.  Sigh......

I've heard about the Mercy Thompson books.  Maybe I need to give them a try.  I'm seriously not loving the Kresley Cole one.  I really wanted to but, yuck.....lots of forced physical stuff.  Not my taste....

I tried the Anita Blake books but the horror was just over the top for me.  Really disturbing stuff.  And, I don't mind some horror - the Night Huntress books can get pretty gritty but, nothing like the Anita Blake books.

I'll having to check out Karen Moning.  Thanks for the recs!

Jenna Black does some fun stuff. Great characters, plenty of action but not too gory, humor, some well-written sex scenes, though not just one after the other like Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake) tends to do. (Though I like her, too, when I'm in the mood for a campy popcorn read with a heaping side of horror.)

I've just started to check out some series by Sherrill (sp?) Kenyon, Lora Leigh, Gail Carriger, and Christine Feehan. Lora Leigh and Christine Feehan tend toward the gritty, vampire/lupine, steamy side of things. They're also prolific, so they're both fun to dive into when you want an entire world to immerse yourself in. Jury's still out on Sherrill Kenyon. I've only read one, and it was one of her earlier works, so the writing was a little shaky. But the basic story was fun. Gail Carriger isn't very explicit on the sex side of things, but her steampunk series, The Parasol Protectorate, is flat out awesome. Great characters, involving storyline, wicked sense of humor.

Yes I love Cat and Bones! I have also read a couple of her short stories - one with Chance and one with Elise who was sired by Mencheres. I really liked both. I can't wait to read First Drop of Crimson as I am falling in love with Mencheres but I am going to read them in the order that they came out. It is a great series.

I like a good mix of plot and (hot and steamy) romance and the first books of the Mercy Thompson and Dead Witch Walking series do not have the second element. lol I am not sure if there's more romance (and sex) in later books. So that's why I'm not *loving* those series yet but I did like the plots and characters so I am going to give them a further try. The fever series as well...I don't know...I only listened to the first two and started the third but stopped because they just aren't quite what I really love (and I have other books that I love more to read right now). There is tons of sexual tension between characters but I can only take so much of that before I just want them together already! Which is part of why I love the BDB and Night Huntress series.

On my list I have another series to check out by Gina Showalter - The Lords of the Underworld. The first book is The Darkest Night. Have you or anyone else read it?

I'll check out some of the authors that earthmama mentioned, too. Thanks!

I am feeling that way about the DarkFever series by Karen Marie Moning. Today I just finshed Shadowfever the 5th and final book and am having a hard time moving on.

LOL some of you mentioned you want something steamy... in the first 3 books the sexual tension is there but no actual sex, but keep reading until the 4th book and oh la la......

This is one of the most addicting series I've read.

Have you read the Demonica series by Larrisa Ione?  They are seriously, seriously hot.  Seriously.  The main characters are sex demons (yes.... sex demons) who have to have sex all the time or else they will die... but they can't *ahem* on their own.  It is not as pornographic as all that sounds and the stories are quite good.  Lots of adventure.  Strong female characters and a rich paranormal world.  And *really* hot males.

I really loved Bones, but I think I love the demons more.

I've read a few of the Immortals After Dark and they come accross as fairly classic romance novels to me, with a few vamps and weres thrown in for spice.  They are ok, and I will pick one up when I can't think of anything else.  But overall they are not my favourite either.

You ladies are so sweet.  especially you OP.  I have finsihed BDB, Sookie, and the angels series, and am trying to figure out what the heck to read next.  I have downloaded mass quantities of classics and other stuff to my kindle, and have begun reading several.  But nothing is holding my attention.  I am even trying An Unfogettable Woman by Jessica Bird.  YAWNNNNNNNNNNNN.

So thank you for this suggestion.  lol

I have heard the Dark Series by Christine Feehan is good, but I am waiting for the first one to become available (Dark Prince) before I start reading any of them.

So Mikayla and Barrons finally do the deed in the Fever series?? I just might have to get back into that. lol It's not even the *sex* I want...it's just...the whole denial thing...I can only take it for so long and 3 books is totally too long for me! I *was* really enjoying the plot/story in them though. They were just a tad too far removed from the "real"/our world for me too. I like stories firmly routed in our world...but with the paranormal/supernatural added in.

I did try Moning's other series (I think it was her) Highlander. Um yeah so not for me. Ugh. lol

I was listening to a BDB po(h)dcast and they mentioned The Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian. I'm going to check it out (along with that demonica series!).

Ok, so I'm two books into the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole and I'm warming up to them. They're definitely steamy but, for a while I was having a hard time with the writing but, I think I'm adapting.  As I'm getting into them, the stories are getting more interesting but, I'm not as crazy about them as some other books. But, I'll stick with them for now because I don't have anything better.

I've read several of the Christine Feehan "Dark" or "Carpathian" books and I really like them.  They do get a bit formulaic after a while.  But, the first 7 or 8 or so, I really enjoyed.  I like her take on vampires and I think she creates a really interesting world.

I haven't read the Larissa Ione series but, I remember hearing about it.  I'm going to try that one next.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Oh yeh, the Darkfever books get so much better!  I wasn't a fan in the beginning, but by the 5th book I was totally hooked!!  I tried reading the Highlander series and really couldn't get into it.  Give the Fever books another try!  I've read all the Sookie Stackhouse books, Fever books, and am now looking for something else.  Right now on my library loan list is:  Guilty Pleasures (one of the Anita Blakes) and Fantasy Lover by Kenyon.  I'll have to check out the Night Huntress books!

I've started the third Fever series book again and wow - it got majorly better! I am totally hooked now but given that the series is only 5 books I do think it's a bit much that it took me til about half way through to get into it. lol

Katie?  Are you my long lost twin?  We seem to be reading (and loving) all the same books!

Im on Book 3 of the night huntress, and its all because of THIS thread.  I have preordered the Dark Prince by Christine Feehan to my kindle.  Im also waiting on Lover Unleashed (Ward) and Dead Reckoning (Harris) But now it would appear Im going to be getting into yet ANOTHER series, Dark Fever by Ms Maning.  LOL

Is it bad that when someone asks me what Im reading (when they see my Kindle) im ashamed to say what it is?  Like being inlove with vampire and immortal stories is my dark little secret.  And I dont have many secrets.  LOL

I know Gina! And I've seen a few posts from you on the tv forum and it seems we watch some of the same shows, too, not just True Blood! (I am still working my way through Dexter - just finished season 2)

I'm almost done the 3rd Fever book and I have the 4th on my iPod ready to go and the 5th on request from the library.

I usually just say oh it's my vampire stuff to people who aren't as, ahem, high brow as me. lol
