first filling--what to expect?

DS 6 years old is having his first filling done on a school morning at 8:10.

I remember not feeling bad at all once the novocaine wore off on mine.

Do I expect him to be able to go to school afterward?  Do I need to be ready to send a lunch of things he doesn't really have to chew?  Should I be prepared to keep him home that day?

It's molars, in between the teeth.  The dentist is also going to clean out some stained grooves on the molars while he is working there anyway.  (he has this stain in the grooves, I got warned from Head Start to have it looked at a couple times. once we established what it was, I noted it every time they sent home the little dentist is coming form.)

My 6 yo had cavities filled and he went back to school after. The dentist said the novocaine would last maybe 1.5 hrs after he was done so I'm sure it will have worn off by the time your son eats lunch, unless they eat really early. You might want to tell his teacher, just in case she sees him chewing on the inside of his cheeks or something. The dentist gave my son a big sticker that said something about being numb so I just left it one him at school.

actually it is a Wed. when they get out of school at 1 anyway....so depending on what time he gets out of the dentist....I may or may not even bother with dropping him off at school...I think if it's like 10 AM I might but 11 or later I probably won't....but I go right by his school on the way home anyway so it's really only the one trip I'd make back on any other day.
