Hospital Experience in Tulsa, OK Southcrest??

Could anyone tell me a bit about their different experiences in hopsitals in Tulsa? We delivered a healthy baby May 2009 at Hill hospital pre-insurance and had to transfer doctors with next pregnancy. LOVED THIS!! my nurses were great and MY doctor delivered. No Scissors!! The post delivery room was small but all our wishes were met. Baby was never out of sight from Hubby or myself. Lots of intervention: Pitocin, Water Broken, Epidural, Second dose epidural (all in all only five hours) FAST DELIVERY. But really great experience. Second delivery was a second trimester MC at St. F Hospital Overall experience: Nothing great about this, but had some WONDERFUL nurses. Very little intervention other than the cytotect to induce, they allowed me to deliver her myself in my own time and call them when I wanted help or needed something. Post-delivery nurse: YOUNG, DUMB, and dropped me after insisting I get up to use the bathroom even though my BP was LOW.

NEW OBGYN, NEW HEALTHY PREGNANCY, NEW HOSPITAL???

SCREST Hosptial is our only option, I'm thinking I want to go more natural this time around, and really like to wear my own clothes, walk during phase 1, eat ice/ popsicles, when I'm up for it, have my mother, husband, possibly sister, has anyone had more natural experiences at SCREST with an OBGYN??? I've heard they are the most MW friendly hospital in Tulsa...??? I also purchased a Doula package at the LLH auction (need to contact her) Are they doula friendly?? ANy feedback would be awesome!

I birthed there in 2000 when it was brand new.  :)

Since then I have been doula at several births there.  The staff is very supportive of natural birth and is doula-friendly.  They do have a tub for laboring in but I have yet to see it used.  You need to be on your toes with the nursery staff, however.

As far as midwife friendly, to my knowledge there is only one CNM that works there, Kim Kmita, CNM (she also does births at St. Francis South..another wonderful hospital for natural birth!!!).  The nurses are with you (well, when I say that I mean they are managing your care) for the majority of your labor and as I said, they are very supportive.  Having a care provider who is also supportive of your choices will help as well.

Your doula will be a great help too in preparing you for birthing there.  :)

I just had a baby at Southcrest back in March. The nurses were great and left us alone when for the most part but came quickly when called. They were very breastfeeding friendly and I was allowed to have anyone I wanted in the room with me while I delivered, including my six year old daughter. :) Not a single nurse or doctor tried to force me into an epidural, unlike at Hilcrest! I did get pitocin so once I had my iv I was limited in the amount of walking I could do, but I was encouraged to rock and to get in a comfortable position. I was allowed and given ice and juice, so I don't think popsicles would be an issue. Overall it was a MUCH better experience than at Hilcrest. The food was better too! Also, they didn't look at me like I was crazy for not circumsizing my son and there was a wonderful and helpful lactation consultant.

My experience at Southcrest was in June 2009.  I really like my L&D nurse.  I liked that there was only the Dr., my L&D nurse and CNA in the delivery room.  After L&D it went downhill.  I was not very happy with the postpartum nurses.  I was very upset with the nusery nurses and staff.  My son had an eating issue and the first night he was transferred to their "NICU" or special care nursery without any notification to my husband or myself.  His temp was too low to room in. So I went and entire night without breastfeeding.  We were so unhappy with the nurses in the NICU that we transferred him to St. John's NICU.  They did not give him the milk I was pumping and were occasionally rude to us. I don't know how different it would have been had he been healthy but, I will not be going back to find out.  I delivered at St. Francis South this February and it was better but I'm not sure if I am just hard to please but I did not like one of the ladies in the nursery there either.
