Solid Food Question

Quick question--if your baby is between 6-8 months old and you have started solids, how much do they eat in a day?  How many meals and how much per meal?

My DD is 7 months old and if loving solids.  She is getting 1 meal per day right now of 2 icecubes (2oz).  I know she would eat more but I am trying to keep her at a diet of mostly BM but I am not sure if I am being too restrictive.

My ODD didn't really eat ANY solids until 9months so this food-loving-baby thing is new to me!

Have you tried foods she can self-feed? That might slow down her consumption since it takes longer to self-feed than to be fed, but also give her the time and exposure to solids that she wants.

At that age Cecilia didn't eat much, by her own choice. She has just recently (she is 9.5 months now) started to enjoy eating a lot more.

I do a mixture of purees and pieces.  I do hand her the spoon when we do purees and she puts it in her own mouth.  I also do pcs of avocado and banana and then the usual puffs and Mum Mums to keep her busy while we eat.  She has her pincer down very well and is quite good at getting food into her mouth so that doesn't usually slow her down!  She is so completely different than my ODD it is amazing to me!

Sounds like she's really digging food! Who knows, she might continue to nurse as much as she is now even if you give her more solids-- Cecilia is like that.

I say you should go with the baby. If she's loving food, give her food. I would say you might be underfeeding her. My DS also loves food and he gets about 4-6oz of puree a day over 3 meals. Also, make sure your ice cubes are really an ounce. I was using some ice cubes that I thought were an ounce but I think they're closer to 1/2 oz a piece. I recently picked up some great silicone molds from Babies R Us that are an ounce a piece and I think they're going to be easier to work with.

I BF and I will do that before meals....Then I offer 3 meals a day of pieces of fruit and veggies.  Also the MUM MUMs and the puffs. My lo (11 months) just recently really started to eat solids never liked the purees and she hasn't dropped any of her BF meals since starting (6-8 times a day)

J is about 8.5 months. She has one, sometimes two, meals/day but doesn't really swallow much. We just give her a few pieces for fruit or veges. At breakfast she is usually given half a banana but she certainly doesn't eat it all. Maybe the equivalent of a tablespoonful at most? Last night at dinner she ate most of a green bean and half of a finger-sized piece of capsicum.
