How Much Have You Spent on Your Stash? (Be Honest Please, Lol!) ;) - Page 3

If my records  are right in Quicken, it's abotu $450. That said, we have received a few covers or doublers as gifts intially at birth and intermittently since then. DS is 21 mo and I have what I need for our second child coming in April.

2 doz newborn GMD prefolds

3 doz yellow edge GMD prefolds

2 doz brown edge GMD prefolds

4 XS Thirsties Covers

2 Bummis newborn covers

6 Small Thirsties covers (some were gifts)

4 medium Thirsties covers

2 medium Bummies Covers

2 Imse Vimse Wool Covers

3 homemade (from etsy) longies

1 Large Thirsties Cover (time to buy more)

2 Mother-Ease airflow covers

3 babykicks bamboo doublers (gift)

few consignment purchases such as a one-size mother-ease diaper

It could be more than $500 but not more than $600, for sure. I probably didn't categorize everything right when entering in Quicken.

Is fabric that expensive over there?  I think I would just start making my own if I were in that situation. But on the flip side, fabric can be pretty darn pricey unless you are doing a co-op, and even then you need quite a bit of fabric to make enough diapers that are adequately absorbent.  $100 for 4 diaper? I am so sorry, that sucks!  Are PFs at least cheaper?

I only know of one company making them here and we tried them but they didn't have the good cut- like the GMD type. They were too narrow to get around the waist. So I had some of the diaper rites imported from the US- as GMD doesn't ship internationally- and they are great. Prefolds are not common here at all. Most of our parents generation used terry flats- thick bulky workhorse type things. Nobody here used to even know about prefolds. And only now some American brands are getting imported are we getting other thinner types of flats- like hemp jersey and bamboos. I have never even seen a birdseye flat or most of the other types I hear talked about on US sites.

I don't know about the fabric as I don't have the time/skills/machine to make my own so I haven't looked into it. The thing is that companies here have a monopoly on things as there are so few of them. Not just talking about diapers here, but everything you can get online. Over there people have to keep prices low because there is so much competition and sites would lose out if they tried to inflate. But there are only a handful of distributors here, so the choices are so limited and if one puts the price up, the others can too- there's no motivation to lower them. For example I bought two preemie Kushies AIO's here for $30 EACH- then I saw on a US site they were sold for $5!!!! Building a stash here is so expensive! And the resale value is pitiful.
