Using Prepaid Credit Cards to pay down debt

Long story short, I have unpaid hospital/medical bills which need to be paid. I am concerned that they will somehow get the bank to do PAPs (without authorization) if we pay them with the CC connected to our banking accounts or with a cheque (they have done so before).

So, I am looking at rechargeable (or not) cc's for paying down these bills. I was wondering if anyone has any experience paying down debt this way and, if so, do you have a recommendation as to which prepaid CC to use? Thanks.

will they accept money orders?

I would do money orders as well.

Money orders won't work. I am not going to get into it, except to say that they won't.

I have weighed all of my options and this is the only one I can see working.

We've used Walmart's money card before (has a Visa logo).  You can upload money at any walmart location, and it can be used online or to pay bills.  It's not tied to any other account, so garnishing isn't a possibility.  The fees are pretty minimal.

Thank you, Drummer's Wife, that is useful information. :)

Does anyone know if Safeway or Fred Meyer's has a similar card as the closest Walmart is over an hour away.

I also have medical debt and I did as drummers wife suggested and got the prepaid card from walmart. We load the money on it,pay them and do that everytime we pay one off or a monthly payment for them. Works well for us.

You can find pre paid cards in a lot of places.  My local chain gas station sells them even.  You can also purchase some online.

I could have sworn that there was a way to use a "masked" credit/debit card number through Paypal that you could enable and disable as you pleased.

Rite Aid and CVS sometimes have sales on the prepaid credit card activation fees.
