sonohysterogram questions

Has anyone BTDT that can explain the procedure to me? I have been resisting going, feeling very hesitant about possible complications, etc. Can you ttc the same cycle? (I'm assuming so, but don't know....)

Thank you!

Yep, I had it done. They use a catheter to put saline solution into your uterus and tubes, and use ultrasound to look at everything to see if it looks normal, tubes clear, etc. The catheter causes cramping, but it is only in for a few minutes, I felt better immediately after they pulled it out. You might spot a little after. As for TTC, it is only done at the beginning of your cycle, so that you can't be pregnant. But you can TTC that cycle, yes.

My experience was just like Kyamo :)  I actually didn't find it any more uncomfortable than a pap and it was over quickly.

I've had a few done and found I was quite crampy afterwards, but nothing an Advil couldn't cure. And I managed to get pregnant the last cycle in which I had one! (It didn't stick though, but I'm sure that wasn't because of the sono)

I just had one done last week.  I too, found it slightly crampy and uncomfortable during the procedure, but felt fine as soon as the catheter was removed.  It's pretty much speculum, catheter, balloon inflated, saline solution, and ultrasound wand inserted.  They look around, and use bubbles to check out your fallopian tubes, they checked out my c/s scar, and I asked to make sure we could vbac next time...  and then you're done.  Take some motrin before hand, and bring a pad for saline solution.  I have had super duper light spotting, but also plenty of cm, so my body's still doing its thing.  We're still ttc this cycle, too.  Good luck!

I had one before my IVF in my last surrogacy.  It was uncomfortable but not painful.  When I got off the table I was bleeding very heavily.  I kinda freaked out.  I didn't know you could bleed for it. Blood was literally pouring out of me.. sorry TMI.

The OB told me it was very common.  It stopped after a little bit.

Thank you, everyone, for your info. Mama2toomany - I appreciate you telling me that - as much as it's unpleasant, I'd much rather be prepared! I have been trying to decide whether to do this and it really helps demystify it to hear from others.
