help! need formula for emergency situation

I just found out Monday that I have to get a D&C tomorrow - anyhow, I don't have enough milk for my 9 week old.  I have only been able to squeeze in 2 pumping sessions for a whopping total of 3 oz.  We're going to be apart for as many as 6 hours.  So, I have to give him a backup formula.  I heard that you can buy individual servings.  I need a recommendation on which one to get.  No cow base is a given.  I don't like soy but what else is there?

ETA: I have no supply problems and nursed my first to 2 years, so I'm not afraid that the formula will interfere otherwise.

I know you said you don't like soy, but this might be an option for you.

We use and eat soy in moderation and this formula is non GMO.

We have used it in emergency situatuions when we've run through my freezer stash.

Im sorry to hear you are going to have to be seperated from your babe. I think no matter what formula you choose, it will be okay, as it is likely to be just one feeding. If it was me, I might give keifer watered down with the breastmilk you do have.

I work FT and can't pump enough to keep up with DS.  I did a ton of research on formula once I realized I was going to have to supplement and IMHO Babies Only is just about the best brand out there.  They have very strict standards - all organic, no GMO, no corn syrup (other organic brands use this; BAbies Only uses brown rice syrup), no BPA in the can liner, etc.... pretty much as good as you can get from a formula.

PP gave the link already (www.naturesone.com).  In addition to the soy they do have a dairy formula and a lactose free formula.  The website lists retail locations where you can buy it but I found it at my local health food store even though it wasn't listed there.

Best of luck to you... I'm sorry you have to be seperated from you LO at such a young age.

Do you have any friends who are breastfeeding and could pump a bit for you? You probably don't need more than about 4 oz. for one feeding.

Thanks all.  I ended up being gone for over 6 hours so having the Babies Only was a lifesaver.  He seems to have survived. :)  Luckily this one is a lot more laid back than DS1...in arms of family all day and did just fine!

Unless you know the baby has a dairy allergy, cow's milk formula is recommended over soy. Soy formula is generally considered inferior as a food source. Cow's milk or soy are your choices. The only other formulas are derivatives of either, general cow's milk, with the protein broken down.

Have you tried milk share? Local LLL? Maybe you could get some donor milk?

So sorry about the D&C. Six hours seems long, though, are you receiving general. You might want to review the medications involved and make a decision yourself about how long you need to go without nursing. Some anethesia wears off quiet quickly. Have someone hear check Hale's.

I was going to suggest asking on your local Eats on Feets chapter (facebook) to see of a mama was able to give a one time donation to last you that short time. Glad you found a solution though and all went well.
